Your personal year number is your birth month plus your birth day plus the current year, each reduced to one digit, then added and reduced again. It runs from 1 to 9 on a nine-year loop. It does not predict anything. It names what the year is for: starting, tending, building, resting or letting go.
Most numerology sits still. Your Life Path is the same at twenty and at sixty. The personal year number is the part that moves. It changes every January, and it is the number women most often say “oh, that explains it” about.
If you have ever had a year where every door opened, followed by one where nothing would budge and you felt like a kettle on a cold ring, the personal year number gives that a name. Here is how to find yours, and what 2026 and 2027 tend to be for.
How to work out your personal year number
You need three things: your birth month, your birth day, and the year you are asking about. You do not need your birth year. The method is the same one we use on the page where we show our working. Reduce each part to a single digit, add them, reduce again.
Take someone born on 23 November, asking about 2026.
| Part | Digits | Reduced |
|---|---|---|
| Birth month | 11 | 11 (a master number, kept whole) |
| Birth day | 23 → 2 + 3 | 5 |
| Year | 2026 → 2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 10 → 1 + 0 | 1 |
| Add | 11 + 5 + 1 = 17 → 1 + 7 | 8 |
So 2026 is a personal year 8 for her. For 2027 she adds 11 + 5 + 2 instead, which is 18, which is 9. One number moves you forward one step. That is the loop.
One note on the year digit. 2026 adds to 10, which becomes 1. 2027 adds to 11. We keep 11 as a master note on the year itself, but when it is added into your personal year it behaves as a 2. So every woman moves one step along the loop from 2026 to 2027, as she does every year.
If you would rather not add, the quiz does it for you and shows the sum. You can find your number in about a minute.
What the nine years tend to feel like
Think of the nine years as a garden. You clear, you plant, you wait, you weed, you harvest, you rest. Each year has a job.
| Personal year | The year is for | It tends to feel like |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Beginnings | A clean kitchen table and a new notebook |
| 2 | Patience | Waiting for bread to rise, and a lot of tea with one person |
| 3 | Expression | Being out, being seen, saying yes to the dinner |
| 4 | Foundations | Spreadsheets, gym bags and the boring good choices |
| 5 | Change | Suitcases, new faces, plans that move |
| 6 | Home | The people closest to you need you, and you them |
| 7 | Depth | Long walks alone and books read to the end |
| 8 | Harvest | Money and work on the desk, and decisions that carry weight |
| 9 | Completion | Clearing cupboards, ending chapters, making room |
A personal year 1 is a year for setting things in motion. What you start now tends to grow across the whole nine years, so it is worth choosing with care. Independence tends to suit you here; waiting for permission does not. The picture is a seed packet in your hand and a bare bed in front of you.
A personal year 2 is a year for tending what was planted rather than forcing it. Partnerships and slow careful work tend to be where the movement is. It can feel like nothing is happening. Underneath, things are settling.
A personal year 3 is a year for showing your work and widening your circle. Social life and creative projects tend to be lively. The one caution is scatter, so pick a few things and enjoy them fully.
A personal year 4 is a year for effort and organisation. Progress tends to be steady rather than dramatic, and what you build now tends to hold. Look after the body and the budget too; both are foundations.
A personal year 5 is a year for loosening what has become fixed. Travel, new people and unexpected turns tend to feature. It may help to say yes more than usual, and to keep one thing steady, a Sunday call or a morning walk, so you have somewhere to land.
A personal year 6 is a year for home and the people in it. Duties tend to increase, and so does the depth of the bonds. If you are reading this in a six year, this is why your mother rings more.
A personal year 7 is a year for going inward. Learning, rest and quiet tend to be more productive than expansion. Results may be less visible than usual, and no less real. If you have a Life Path 7, a seven year tends to feel like coming home.
A personal year 8 is a year for work and money. Effort from earlier in the loop tends to become visible now, in either direction. Decisions carry weight. It is the year you open the drawer with the bank letters and actually read them.
A personal year 9 is a year for finishing and letting go. What no longer fits tends to loosen on its own, and the graceful move is to help it. A nine year is the skip outside the house, and the odd lightness that follows it.

Show me my numberWhat 2026 is for
2026 adds up to 1. That is the universal year, the one everybody shares. Underneath each woman’s own personal year there is a low note of beginning this year. You may have felt it in January: a lot of people starting over at once.
Your personal year sits on top of that. A woman in a personal year 4 during 2026 has the world saying “begin” and her own year saying “build”. That is a good pairing for starting something slowly and properly. A woman in a personal year 9 has the world saying “begin” while her own year says “finish first”. The finishing comes first, and the starting comes next year.
What 2027 is for
2027 adds up to 11. That is a master number in our method, so it stays whole when we describe the year, and the year tends to carry heightened sensitivity layered over the patience of a 2. In plain words, 2027 tends to be a year where people feel more, notice more and want to work together more.
For your own personal year, 2027 moves you one step along. If 2026 was your 3, 2027 is your 4. If 2026 was your 9, 2027 is your 1, and the new loop starts for you just as the world turns a cooperative page. That is not a promise. It is a note about the tone of the room you are walking into.
Month by month: the personal month number
Each month inside the year has a flavour too. Your personal month number is your personal year number plus the calendar month, reduced. So if your personal year is 5, your March is 5 + 3, which is 8. Your October is 5 + 10, which is 15, which is 6. The month numbers use the same nine meanings as the years, only lighter and shorter.
Here are the month numbers for three common personal years, so you can see the pattern. Read them with the table above: a 1 month is for a first move, a 4 month for building, a 7 month for going inward, a 9 month for finishing. Where a month adds to 11 we keep it whole in your reading; here we show the 2 it rests on.
| Month | Personal year 1 | Personal year 5 | Personal year 8 |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 2 | 6 | 9 |
| February | 3 | 7 | 1 |
| March | 4 | 8 | 2 |
| April | 5 | 9 | 3 |
| May | 6 | 1 | 4 |
| June | 7 | 2 | 5 |
| July | 8 | 3 | 6 |
| August | 9 | 4 | 7 |
| September | 1 | 5 | 8 |
| October | 2 | 6 | 9 |
| November | 3 | 7 | 1 |
| December | 4 | 8 | 2 |
You can see why two women in the same calendar month can be having such different Augusts. One is clearing the decks. One is in a quiet, bookish patch. None of them is doing August wrong. If you keep seeing 444 on the clock during a four month, there is no cause in it, but it can be a nudge to notice what the month is asking for.
What to do with this
Work out your personal year once, write it inside the cover of your diary, and leave it there. That is the whole practice. You do not need to check it daily.
Then let it lower the pressure. If you are in a 2 or a 7 and you feel slow, you are not behind. The year is for tending or for thinking, and doing those well is the work. If you are in a 1 or an 8 and you feel pushed, it may help to give the year its attention in small, chosen doses.
Use the month numbers as gentle planning. If a 9 month is coming, that is a good fortnight to clear the drawer or have the conversation you have been putting off. If a 5 month is coming, leave some white space in the calendar.
And be kind to the timing. Numerology is for reflection, not instruction. If a year says “home” and your life says “move abroad”, move abroad, and notice that the home theme may show up in how you make the new place yours. The number describes the weather. You still choose where to walk.

FAQ
Does my personal year start in January or on my birthday?
We count it from January, as most Western numerologists do. Some people feel the shift settle in gradually across the autumn before. Either way, the number is the same for the whole calendar year.
Why does my personal year not include my birth year?
Because the birth year is already in your Life Path, which is fixed. The personal year asks a different question: what is this particular year for. It uses your birth month and day, plus the year you are living through.
Can my personal year be 11 or 22?
In our method, yes, if the sum lands on one before it reaches a single digit. A personal year 11 is a year for insight, with the patience of a 2 beneath it. If you get an 11, read both the 11 and the 2. For the month table, treat it as a 2.
I got a 9 for 2026. Is that a bad year?
No. A nine year is for finishing and letting go, and it can be one of the lightest years in the loop once you stop fighting it. Endings made gracefully now make space for the 1 that follows in 2027.
How does this relate to my Life Path?
Your Life Path is the road. Your personal year is the season you are walking it in. The cheat sheet for Life Paths 1 to 9 is a good place to read the road; this post is the weather.
